Aldershot (population 38,000) is a garrison town in Hampshire, home of the British Army, a huge cricket pitch and a very strong Women’s cricket club. North Moreton (population 350) is a tiny village in South Oxfordshire, with a pub, and a small ground, but it also has a useful Women’s cricket team. Last Sunday the two clubs met in a T20 semi final, in the ECB National Club plate competition and they produced a thriller.
A’shot launched their not so secret weapon, Southern Viper Ella Chandler, who scored a majestic 80*, as the hosts overcame a tight first 10 overs from Moreton, to post a challenging and above par 156 for their 20. Zara Wyatt & Amelie Trivedi were the pick of the Moreton bowlers.
The response was immediate & hugely positive, with Ellie Ingram & Carla Wood taking absolutely no prisoners. Their opening partnership of 113 turned the match on its head and Carla’s unfortunate run out for 41, did not stop the visitors from recording a famous victory, with skipper Georgia Haworth calmly ensuring Ellie’s remarkable, undefeated, 89 from 70, with a comfortable two balls to spare, was not in vain.
Moreton now host Mildenhall (population 10,000) and home to the RAF, on Sunday 27th June, in their battle to win the group final …
