The youth section at Stanton Harcourt is relatively new and 2021 has been the first season we entered a youth cricket league.
We have a relatively small pool of players and our teams have been a peculiar mix of ages and abilities which you only seem to find in junior cricket. It has been fantastic to see the team gain confidence and learn, particularly in fielding awareness and the precarious art of running between the wickets.
Nevaeh Vaughan has been excellent with the ball in hand and Charlie Gibbs is an unflappable and exciting batter with an array of unusual shots. Catches have won matches and have been shared amongst the players with George Tidsell taking some memorable chances.
Competing in the league has unquestionably been a valuable experience for the junior squad and the club as a whole. The positive attitude of the opposition coaches is fantastic to see and the priority is always on making the match as fun and entertaining as possible.
So thank you to Oxfordshire Cricket for organising, to all the coaches that get the game on and of course to the players for making the contest come alive.
