On Tuesday 28th of June, Oxfordshire Cricket in partnership with the Oxfordshire Schools Cricket Association welcomed Magdalen College School and The Dragon to the magnificent Wormsley Estate for the U12 Bunbury Cup Final.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Dragon got off to a slow start which left them at 35-3. A superb 54 off 46 balls by Will Baker, and an unbeaten quick 25 off 13 balls by Ed Turner helped guide Dragon to 162-7 off their twenty-five overs.
In response, a steady 38 off 54 by Raffy Gibbons and 24 off 36 by Nico Hartley kept Magdalen in the chase. However, some tight overs in the middle of the innings by Ollie Evans and Cosmo Rowan-Hull led to a flurry of wickets, with Evans taking 3-14 and Rowan-Hull taking 2-19 to help secure a 27-run win for Dragon.
Dragon will now go on to represent Oxfordshire in 2023 in the regional rounds of the National England Schools Cricket Association (ESCA) cup.
Support Oxfordshire Cricket Deliver Cricket in State Schools
Oxfordshire Cricket has a proven track record of growth across a wide range of programmes. In 2021 we delivered cricket to 8171 children in primary schools in Oxfordshire. We would like to embrace the opportunity of providing more cricket within state schools, widen our talent pool and level-up opportunities. At this point in time, we do not have any funding for secondary school activities or programmes for the next academic year. The ECB and Chance to Shine do not fund mixed secondary school delivery. Our ambition is to raise enough funding that will enable us to deliver a secondary school programme in every school in Oxfordshire.
We would also like to make opportunities such as playing some of the school’s finals days at places such as the wonderful Wormsley estate which hosted this year’s finals in partnership with the Oxfordshire Schools Cricket Association a sustainable annual event.
