The former County Cricket Treasurer Doug Eva died on 27 July, aged 92. Doug had been Treasurer of the County Club from 1970 until 1973, when Simon Porter took over. More remarkably though, he was Treasurer of the Oxfordshire County Cricket Association throughout its existence from 1969 to 1995. The two organisations merged to become the Oxfordshire Cricket Board in 1996.
Managing the finances across county and club competitions, youth and indoor cricket is no small task and Doug carried this activity out unstintingly for over 25 years. He was well suited to the role, working as he did in a bank, initially at Martins Bank on Carfax before joining Barclays where he became bank manager in Marston.
His full name was Edmund Douglas Greenwood Eva but he was always known as ‘Doug’. He had 3 main interests: Cricket, Bowls, and the Frewin Club. Aside from the treasurer roles, Doug was a long-time playing member of the Erratics as a leg spin bowler. When he finished playing cricket, he took up bowls. At the Frewin Club in St Aldate’s Doug was the longest serving member at the time of his death.
At his funeral the chapel was full to overflowing, a clear indication of Doug being a well liked and respected man.
