Oxfordshire won their first NCCA game of the season yesterday (Sunday 13th of June) at Falkland CC by beating Berkshire by 4 wickets.
Berkshire won the toss and elected to bat first. Berkshire lost Carter early after he was caught by Tait off the bowling of Gareth Andrew. Soon after Joe Butcher dismissed Row for 25 as he was caught by Cater. Joe Thomas then picked up two quick wickets, dismissing Scriven and Morris to leave the hosts 81-4. James Coles then superbly picked up 5-6 off his 7 overs to leave Berks 108-9. George Tait then took the final wicket with Berkshire setting Oxfordshire 115 runs to win. Coles’ figures were the second-best by an Oxfordshire bowler in the competition behind Simon Porter’s six for 48 against Shropshire in 1986.
In response, Oxon lost Tom Cosford and James Coles early to leave the visitors 5-2 with Peploe getting both wickets. Tom Haynes and Harrison Ward then put on a partnership of 38 before Ward got dismissed for 17 by Scriven. Oxon then lost Haynes, for 19 leaving them 51-4. Jonny Cater and Olly Clarke then put on a partnership of 47 to steady the innings before Clarke was dismissed for 26. Cater (27) and Tait (12) then guided Oxon to a four-wicket win with five overs to spare. To view the full scorecard click here
Oxfordshire will now play Wales NC in their next group match of the NCCA One Day Trophy on Sunday 20th of June at Banbury Cricket Club.
