The former Bicester Town and Oxfordshire batsman Peter Capel-Smith passed away on 19
September aged 88. Peter was a prolific run scorer for Bicester and scored thousands of
runs for them over his long career. He made 4 appearances for Oxfordshire across the
1956/57 seasons but could not reproduce his club form and was not selected again. He did
though reappear for the Oxfordshire 50+ team in his later years. He went on several
overseas cricket tours, in particular to Barbados.
Peter was a talented all-round sportsman, playing rugby for the county and also being very
proficient at hockey, soccer, and golf. Educated at Loughborough University, Peter was the
first PE teacher at the newly built Cherwell School in Oxford and later a PE teacher in
Bicester.
