This past week has seen lots of activity in the Ron Maudsley U13 Trophy with the Semi-Final line up finally being completed on Friday. The weather this season proving a considerable challenge to completing the competition. The last Semi-Final place was filled by Shipton Under Wychwood with a 10 run victory over Oxford Downs.
Despite many further weather worries leading up to the Finals Day at Bicester & North Oxford Cricket Club on Sunday 27th June, whilst the weather was not ideal cricketing conditions it did remain dry all day!
Semi-Final 1 saw a derby between Aston Rowant and Tiddington. Tiddington won the toss and on a slightly damp overcast morning elected to field. Aston reached 105 all out in the final over with Finlay Little 36no and Jack North 25. Superb bowling figures by both Monty Boyd 4 for 16 and Elliott Richardson 3 for 11. In reply, Tiddington reached their target with the loss of 1 wicket in the 19th over with Alfie Wilson 30ret, Sam Allen 31ret and Monty Boyd 23no.
Semi-Final 2 saw newcomers Kidmore End face Shipton Under Wychwood. Shipton batted first with Arthur Hanson 30, M Bolam 30 and Watson 31 all retiring giving total of 117 for 1 in 20 overs. In reply, Kidmore End fell 22 runs short being 95 all out in the final over with Nandan scoring 26 and 4 wickets for Charles.
Kidmore End then defeated Aston Rowant in a close 3rd/4th place playoff. Kidmore End reached 109 for 6 off their 20 overs with Aaryush 24 and 2 wickets each for J Healy and Jack North. In reply, Aston fell 23 runs short being bowled out for 86 with Sam Grocutt 23 and excellent bowling figures for both Aaryan and Aaryush with 3 for 14 and 3 for 13 respectively.
The final saw a very close encounter between Tiddington and Shipton Under Wychwood. Shipton won the toss and elected to bat. Arthur Hanson 30ret and M Bolam 26 setting a solid foundation of 56 for the first wicket then a good contribution by C Astor 29no with Shipton finishing on 109 for 4 from their 20 overs. In reply, Tiddington successfully chased down their target in the 19th over for the loss of 3 wickets; Alfie Wilson 32ret, Monty Boyd 30no, Kit Kingsbury 17no and Sam Edwards 14no.
David Hanson a member of the Oxfordshire Cricket Board then completed the day by thanking the teams, coaches, officials and volunteers whilst also recognising the high level of skills on display and the high standards of spirit of cricket being maintained. The day was completed by David presenting Tiddington’s captain with the Ron Maudsley Trophy.
Tiddington CC will now have the honour to represent Oxfordshire in the Second Round of the National Vitality U13 Club T20 Competition on Sunday 11 July hosting the winners of the Berkshire competition.
